CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS LEADERS DIALOGUE ON GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

Women in Kamuli are subjected to gender based violence such physical violence and sexual violence which has resulted into poor development in communities, separation among families and death to some extent.

Women Empowerment Uganda Limited- WAGENET conducted cultural and religious dialogues to end harmful traditional practices, misconception and myths against women in Kamuli. The Mwalimu says “many Muslim men misuse the Moslem right of marrying four women, he says that the Quran accept four women if you equally take care of them” and as well other religious leader emphasized the respect and equal treatment of women in communities.

Dialogues were conducted basically to help the women to understand the basic concepts, principles and teachings of human rights and GBVs mitigation including the ways in which they are delivered to people in the communities. The dialogues also help to determine strategic entry points since not all faith actors and leaders address all developmental issues and comparative advantages of partnerships.
